Possible Causes

Incoming water hardness higher than programmed, Aquasana resin tank undersized for usage, Meter not registering all flow, Incorrect capacity or hardness settings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: No special safety concerns for programming changes. Do not open pressurized plumbing.

Steps to address H1 (high hardness warning):

  • 1. Test hardness: Use a hardness test kit on raw water and softened water. Compare to the hardness value programmed into the Aquasana control head.
  • 2. Adjust settings: Enter programming mode and increase the hardness setting to match actual tested hardness. Ensure the regeneration frequency is appropriate for your household usage.
  • 3. Check meter function: Confirm that the usage meter is counting gallons correctly. If not, see metering error troubleshooting.
  • 4. Run manual regeneration: After adjusting settings, run a manual regeneration to fully recharge the resin bed.
  • 5. Monitor performance: Retest softened water hardness over the next few days. If hardness remains high, the resin may be exhausted or fouled and may need replacement.
