Possible Causes

Salt level in Aquasana brine tank below sensor, Salt bridging preventing proper brine formation, Salt sensor dirty or disconnected (if equipped), Incorrect salt type used

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: No electrical hazard for salt refilling, but avoid lifting heavy salt bags if you have physical limitations.

Steps to address 'Lo' (low salt):

  • 1. Check salt level: Open the Aquasana brine tank and visually confirm the salt level. Add high-purity solar or pellet salt up to the recommended fill line.
  • 2. Break salt bridge: If the top appears full but you see a hollow space when pushing down, gently break the salt bridge with a broom handle.
  • 3. Check for mush: If the bottom of the tank is full of soft, mushy salt, scoop out excess mush and refill with fresh salt.
  • 4. Clean salt sensor (if present): Some Aquasana models have a salt level probe. Wipe the probe with a damp cloth to remove salt crust, then dry.
  • 5. Run a manual regeneration: After refilling salt, initiate a manual regeneration to restore full softening capacity.
