Possible Causes
Stuck brine refill valve, Defective brine float assembly, Incorrect refill time setting, Leaking brine valve seat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet valve. Be prepared for water in the brine tank.
- Check brine float: Open the brine tank and locate the brine well (tube). Remove the cover and inspect the float assembly. Ensure it moves freely up and down and that the shutoff valve at the bottom is not jammed with salt or debris. Clean and reassemble.
- Inspect brine valve: At the control head, locate the brine refill valve or piston. Remove it according to the AquaSoft service manual. Check for debris on the seat and worn O-rings. Clean and lubricate with silicone grease or replace the valve kit.
- Verify programming: Enter the control settings and confirm the brine refill time is set according to the unit's capacity and salt dosage chart. Excessive refill time can cause overfilling.
- Drain excess water: Manually remove excess water from the brine tank using a wet/dry vacuum or small pump before returning the unit to service.
- Test regeneration: Restore water and power, then run a manual regeneration while monitoring the brine refill stage to ensure the water stops at the correct level.
