Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener before removing the control valve cover. Water may discharge if you open the valve body; close inlet/outlet valves and depressurize first.
Step-by-step:
- Listen for motor: With the cover on and power restored, start a manual regeneration. If you hear a humming or clicking but no movement, the motor may be stalled.
- Inspect drive assembly: Disconnect power, remove the AquaUnique control head cover. Check the motor, cam, and gear train for broken teeth, loose screws, or foreign objects.
- Check rotor disc movement: With water off and pressure relieved, gently attempt to rotate the cam/rotor by hand (if design allows). If it is locked solid, internal seals or debris may be binding the valve.
- Clean debris: If you see resin beads or scale inside the valve housing, carefully vacuum or flush them out according to the service manual. Do not scratch sealing surfaces.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the cover, restore water and power, and run a manual regeneration to see if E03 clears.
When to call a technician: If the motor does not run at all or the rotor remains seized, the drive motor or complete control valve assembly may need replacement by a qualified technician.
