Possible Causes

Stuck brine refill valve in control head, Leaking brine valve seal pack, Faulty brine float safety assembly, Control board not closing refill valve output

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet valve before working on the brine system. Brine is corrosive; wear gloves and eye protection.

Step-by-step:

  • Check float operation: Remove the brine well cover and lift the float assembly. Ensure the float moves freely and that the air check at the bottom shuts off flow when raised.
  • Inspect for debris: Look for salt bridges or sludge that may prevent the float from rising. Break up salt bridges with a broom handle, being careful not to damage the tank.
  • Test refill valve: With water restored and power on, manually advance the softener to the brine refill stage. Observe water entering the brine tank. When you advance to the next stage, flow should stop. If it continues, the brine valve in the control head may be stuck.
  • Clean or replace seals: Shut off water, relieve pressure, and remove the brine valve assembly from the AquaUnique control head. Inspect and clean seals; replace the brine valve seal kit if worn or damaged.

When to call a technician: If water continues to enter the brine tank even with the control in service mode, the control valve body or board output may be defective and should be serviced professionally.
