Softener is stuck in regeneration and continues to run water to drain

Safety first: Continuous drain flow can waste water and may flood drains. Close the softener inlet valve or place it in BYPASS to stop flow, then unplug the unit.

Step-by-step:

• Inspect valve position: Remove the AquaUnique control cover and note the cam position. If it is between detents, the motor may have stalled.
• Check for obstructions: Look for broken plastic pieces, resin beads, or debris in the gear train.
• Manually advance: If the design allows, gently rotate the cam to the SERVICE position to restore normal water service.
• Test motor: With power restored, attempt a manual regeneration and observe whether the motor turns the cam smoothly.

When to call a technician: If the valve cannot be advanced or the motor does not run, the control valve assembly or motor will likely need professional replacement.
