Possible Causes

Exhausted or fouled resin bed, Incorrect hardness or capacity settings, Bypass valve partially open, Brine not being drawn during regeneration

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: No internal electrical work is required. If adjusting plumbing, close valves and relieve pressure first.

Step-by-step:

  • Check bypass: Confirm the AquaUnique bypass is fully in SERVICE position. Any bypass opening will mix hard water.
  • Test hardness: Use a hardness test kit on both raw and softened water to confirm the issue.
  • Observe regeneration: During a manual regeneration, watch the brine level. It should drop during brine draw. If it does not, clean the injector, brine line, and float assembly as described for E02.
  • Review programming: Verify hardness and capacity settings match your water conditions and tank size.
  • Resin condition: If the unit is old or exposed to iron, the resin may be fouled. Consider using a resin cleaner or having the resin replaced.

When to call a technician: If hardness remains high after proper regeneration and cleaning, the resin bed or internal distributor may need professional replacement.
