Salt Bridging in Brine Tank
Brine tank fills with water but salt does not dissolve properly (salt bridge)
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Use of large salt blocks or pellets in humid environment, Compacted salt forming a hard crust, Infrequent salt refilling practices
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Do not use sharp metal tools that could puncture the tank.
- Check for bridge: Gently push a broom handle or plastic rod down into the salt. If you feel a hollow space under a hard crust, a salt bridge is present.
- Break the bridge: Carefully break up the crust by moving the rod up and down, allowing the salt to fall into the water below.
- Remove sludge: If there is a thick layer of insoluble residue at the bottom, scoop it out and clean the tank.
- Refill correctly: Refill with high-purity tablet salt recommended by BWT, keeping the level between the minimum and maximum marks.
- Improve conditions: Reduce humidity around the tank if possible to prevent future bridging.
