Possible Causes
Kinked or blocked drain hose, Blocked drain flow restrictor in valve head, Frozen or clogged building drain, Defective drain solenoid valve on BWT Perla valve block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the BWT Perla. Close inlet and outlet valves and relieve pressure by opening a nearby tap.
- Inspect drain hose routing: Follow the drain hose from the BWT Perla to the drain. Remove kinks, sharp bends, or elevation higher than recommended in the installation manual. Ensure the hose end is not submerged in standing water.
- Check for blockages: Disconnect the drain hose at the softener. Blow through the hose or flush it with water to confirm it is clear. Clean any sediment or scale buildup.
- Check building drain: Ensure the floor drain or standpipe is not blocked. Clear any obstructions and ensure the trap is not frozen in cold areas.
- Clean drain flow restrictor: At the valve head, locate the drain connection and remove the fitting. Inside there is often a small orifice or flow restrictor; remove and rinse it thoroughly to remove debris.
- Test drain solenoid: Restore power, reconnect the hose, and start a manual regeneration. Listen for the drain solenoid click and observe water flow at the drain. If the solenoid does not actuate or no water flows despite a clear hose, the drain solenoid/valve head assembly may need replacement.
