Possible Causes

Shorted solenoid coil on valve head, Damaged wiring harness to solenoids, Water ingress causing short on PCB, Defective output driver transistor on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Immediately disconnect power if you smell burning or see smoke. Do not continue operating the unit.

  • Visual inspection: Open the control housing and inspect the main PCB and wiring for burn marks, melted insulation, or moisture.
  • Check solenoid coils: Disconnect the solenoid connectors one by one and inspect for corrosion or water inside the coil housing.
  • Isolate the fault: With a multimeter (if qualified), measure the resistance of each solenoid coil on the valve head. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted coil that must be replaced (usually by replacing the valve head).
  • Dry and clean: If moisture is present, dry the area thoroughly and correct any leaks from plumbing connections above the unit.
  • Replace damaged parts: Replace the valve head assembly if a coil is shorted. If the PCB is burnt, replace the main control board as well.
