BWT
Salt Bridging
BWT softener brine tank develops a hard crust of salt (salt bridge) and stops using salt

Possible Causes
High humidity environment, Overfilling salt, Using fine or damp salt, Infrequent regenerations
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Avoid using sharp metal tools that could puncture the tank.
- Identify bridge: Tap the side of the brine tank; a hollow sound above the water line suggests a salt bridge.
- Break bridge: Insert a plastic rod or broom handle and gently break up the hardened salt layer, allowing it to fall into the water below.
- Remove excess: Scoop out large chunks if necessary and discard.
- Prevent recurrence: Keep salt level moderate (not to the very top) and use high-quality BWT-approved salt. Ensure the area is well ventilated.
- Run regeneration: After clearing, run a regeneration to restore normal operation.
Repeated bridging may require changing salt type or improving room conditions.
