BWT
Water Hammer / Rapid Valve Switching
BWT softener causes banging or water hammer noises in pipes during regeneration
Advertisements
Possible Causes
High mains pressure without damping, Rapid closing of BWT valve ports, Lack of water hammer arrestor, Loose pipe supports
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not attempt to adjust internal valve timing without proper documentation.
- Check pressure: Measure mains pressure. If high, install or adjust a pressure reducing valve to BWT’s recommended range.
- Install hammer arrestor: Fit a water hammer arrestor near the softener or on problem branches.
- Secure pipes: Ensure all nearby pipes are properly clipped and supported to reduce movement.
- Regeneration timing: Schedule regeneration for night hours when usage is low to minimize audible impact.
If hammer persists, consult a plumber or BWT technician to evaluate valve operation and system design.
