Possible Causes
Debris lodged in BWT control valve seals, Damaged piston or seal pack, Misaligned cam causing valve to stay in backwash position, Cracked valve body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Close inlet and outlet valves and disconnect power. The drain line may discharge water; have a bucket ready.
- Confirm symptom: Check the drain hose; if water flows steadily when the unit should be in service, the valve is not sealing.
- Inspect drain line: Ensure the drain line is not creating a siphon effect (end submerged in water). Raise and secure above drain level if needed.
- Clean valve internals: Remove the BWT valve head following the service manual. Inspect the piston and seal pack for debris or damage. Rinse components and remove any resin beads or grit.
- Replace seals if worn: If seals are swollen, torn, or flattened, replace the seal and spacer kit with genuine BWT parts.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the valve head, restore water slowly, and check if drain flow stops in service mode.
If continuous drain persists, the valve body or piston assembly may be cracked and require replacement.
