BWT
Incorrect Bypass Valve Position
BWT softener installed but water remains untreated because the unit is in permanent bypass
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Bypass lever left in bypass after installation, Misunderstanding of BWT connection block positions, Stuck bypass valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Confirm which valves control the softener before adjusting. Sudden changes can affect water supply.
- Identify positions: Refer to the BWT connection block diagram to identify Service, Bypass, and Closed positions.
- Set to service: Move the bypass lever or valves to the Service position so water flows through the softener.
- Check for stiffness: If the lever is hard to move, gently work it back and forth. Do not force; internal damage may occur.
- Test water: After a few minutes, test water hardness at a tap to confirm softening.
If the bypass valve will not move or leaks in service position, it may need replacement.
