Possible Causes

Worn or broken plastic gears in BWT valve head, Misaligned camshaft, Failing drive motor, Foreign object in gear train

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the valve cover. Avoid placing fingers near gears when powered.

  • Remove cover: Take off the plastic cover on the valve head to expose the motor and gears.
  • Inspect gears: Look for missing teeth, cracks, or excessive play in the gear train. Replace damaged gears with BWT gear kits.
  • Check cam alignment: Ensure the cam is properly seated on the shaft and not wobbling. Realign or tighten as needed.
  • Listen to motor: With the cover off (but keeping clear), briefly power the unit and start a regeneration to listen. A loud humming without rotation suggests a failing motor.
  • Lubrication: Do not apply grease unless specified by BWT; many gears are designed to run dry.

Persistent loud noises usually require replacement of the drive motor or gear set.
