E1
BWT Inlet Water Supply Fault

Display shows E1 and the softener does not start regeneration

Possible Causes

Closed inlet shutoff valve, Blocked BWT inlet filter screen, Insufficient mains water pressure, Kinked or crushed inlet hose

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Close the main water supply to the softener before disconnecting any hoses. Depressurize by opening a nearby tap.

  • Check inlet valve: Verify the BWT softener’s dedicated inlet shutoff valve is fully open. Many BWT units have a bypass/inlet lever on the connection block; ensure it is in the Service position, not Bypass or Closed.
  • Inspect inlet hose: Look for kinks, sharp bends, or crushed sections on the flexible hose feeding the BWT valve head. Straighten or replace if damaged.
  • Clean inlet filter: At the softener’s inlet union, BWT typically uses a small stainless-steel mesh filter. Shut off water, unscrew the union, carefully pull out the filter screen, rinse under running water, and brush off debris. Reinstall and tighten without overtightening.
  • Check mains pressure: Ensure household water pressure meets BWT’s minimum (often around 1.5–2.0 bar). If pressure is low, the unit may not detect flow. Consult a plumber if pressure is inadequate.
  • Power-cycle: After restoring flow, disconnect power for 30 seconds, reconnect, and attempt a manual regeneration from the BWT control panel.

If E1 persists despite good flow and pressure, the internal flow sensor or control valve may be faulty and should be checked by a qualified technician.
