Possible Causes

Blocked BWT fine filter upstream, Closed outlet valve, Excessive mains pressure beyond BWT rating, Internal valve blockage causing pressure spike

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Close inlet and outlet valves and relieve pressure before disassembling any components. Use a pressure gauge if available.

  • Check upstream filter: Many BWT installations include a BWT fine filter or protective filter before the softener. Shut off water, open the filter housing, and clean or replace the cartridge.
  • Verify outlet valve: Ensure the outlet isolation valve from the softener is fully open. A partially closed valve can cause high differential pressure.
  • Measure pressure: If possible, measure inlet pressure. If it exceeds the BWT maximum (often around 6–8 bar), install or adjust a pressure reducing valve.
  • Inspect valve for blockage: If you suspect internal blockage, remove the valve head (following BWT instructions) and check for resin beads or debris lodged in ports. Clean carefully and reassemble.
  • Reset alarm: Restore water and power, then clear the E8 error via the control panel.

Continued E8 errors may indicate a faulty pressure sensor or damaged valve body; contact a technician.
