Possible Causes

Stuck open brine refill valve in Cillit control head, Leaking brine float valve, Blocked brine overflow line, Incorrect refill time setting

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power and avoid contact with salty water on the floor—risk of slipping and corrosion.

  • Stop water: Close the inlet valve to the softener and place the bypass in bypass mode.
  • Check brine float: Open the brine tank and inspect the float assembly in the brine well. Ensure it moves freely up and down. Clean any salt crust or debris that may prevent it from closing.
  • Inspect overflow: Verify that the brine tank overflow fitting and hose (usually on the side of the tank) are not blocked or kinked. Clear any obstruction and ensure the hose discharges to a safe drain.
  • Check refill valve: Remove the injector/brine valve assembly from the Cillit control head and inspect the refill valve seat and O‑rings. Replace worn or damaged parts using a Cillit injector and brine valve service kit.
  • Adjust refill settings: Confirm that the brine refill time or volume is correctly programmed for the tank size and salt dosage recommended by Cillit.
