Possible Causes
Clogged inlet/outlet strainers, Fouled resin bed, Undersized Cillit softener for demand, Partially closed isolation valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Depressurize the system before removing strainers or opening the valve head.
- Check valves: Ensure inlet and outlet isolation valves are fully open.
- Clean strainers: Remove and clean the Cillit inlet and outlet strainers as described in E01/E07.
- Bypass test: Place the softener in bypass. If flow improves significantly, the restriction is within the softener.
- Inspect resin bed: If the unit is old or has been exposed to iron or sediment, the resin bed may be fouled. Consider replacing the Cillit ion exchange resin and cleaning the distributors.
