Softener occasionally delivers bursts of discolored (brown/yellow) water after regeneration

Safety: Let discolored water run to drain until clear before consumption.

• Check backwash flow: Ensure the drain line is not restricted and that backwash flow is strong.
• Clean resin: Use a Cillit‑approved resin cleaner (iron remover) following the manufacturer’s instructions. This is usually added to the brine tank and drawn through during regeneration.
• Test raw water: Measure iron levels. If high, consider installing a dedicated iron filter upstream of the softener.
• Replace resin: Severely fouled resin may need to be replaced with new Cillit cation exchange resin.
