Possible Causes
Iron‑fouled Cillit resin, Dirty resin bed, Inadequate backwash flow, High iron in raw water without pre‑treatment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Let discolored water run to drain until clear before consumption.
- Check backwash flow: Ensure the drain line is not restricted and that backwash flow is strong.
- Clean resin: Use a Cillit‑approved resin cleaner (iron remover) following the manufacturer’s instructions. This is usually added to the brine tank and drawn through during regeneration.
- Test raw water: Measure iron levels. If high, consider installing a dedicated iron filter upstream of the softener.
- Replace resin: Severely fouled resin may need to be replaced with new Cillit cation exchange resin.
