Possible Causes
Clogged brine refill port or flow control, Stuck brine valve, Blocked brine line, Incorrect programming of refill step
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bypass and depressurize the system before opening brine connections.
Steps:
- Check for water in brine tank: After a regeneration, there should be several inches of water in the brine tank. If dry, proceed with checks.
- Inspect brine line: Ensure the brine line from the valve to the tank is not kinked or blocked. Replace if necessary.
- Clean brine refill flow control: Locate and remove the brine refill flow control (often integrated with the brine valve). Clean any debris and verify the orifice is open. Replace the brine refill flow control if damaged.
- Check brine valve movement: Confirm the brine valve opens during refill. If it remains closed, replace the brine valve assembly.
- Verify programming: Ensure the controller has a brine refill step with adequate time programmed. If set to zero, the tank will not refill.
Tip: After restoring refill, manually add water to the brine tank to speed recovery of softening capacity.
