Possible Causes
Insufficient rinse time, High brine concentration, Incorrect drain flow control, Piston not fully shifting to service position
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not consume water that tastes excessively salty until the issue is resolved.
Steps:
- Check programming: Verify that the backwash and rinse times are set according to Clack specifications for your resin volume. Increase the final rinse time if necessary.
- Inspect drain flow control: Ensure the correct DLFC (drain line flow control) is installed for your tank size. An undersized DLFC can reduce rinse effectiveness.
- Examine piston and seals: Remove and inspect the piston and seal pack for wear or misalignment that could allow brine to bypass into service. Replace the piston and seal kit if worn.
- Check brine concentration: Extremely high salt settings or very small brine tank volumes can cause overly strong brine. Adjust salt dose to manufacturer recommendations.
- Flush system: After corrections, run several regeneration cycles and flush household lines before using water for drinking.
Tip: A slight temporary saltiness immediately after regeneration can be normal; persistent strong salt taste indicates a fault.
