Possible Causes
No brine draw during regeneration, Brine tank not refilling, Brine line disconnected or blocked, Controller set to backwash only (no brine step)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bypass and depressurize before opening brine connections.
Steps:
- Observe regeneration: During a manual regeneration, watch the brine tank. The water level should drop during brine draw and rise during refill. If not, troubleshoot brine draw and refill as separate issues.
- Check brine line connections: Ensure the brine line is securely connected at both the valve and brine tank and is not blocked.
- Clean injector and screen: Remove and clean the injector and injector screen to restore suction.
- Verify programming: Confirm that the controller includes a brine draw and refill step in the cycle. If set incorrectly (e.g., backwash only), adjust to a standard softener cycle.
- Test again: After corrections, run another regeneration and confirm that salt is being dissolved and used.
Note: Long-term operation without brine will exhaust the resin and result in hard water.
