Display shows “Err 2” and valve stops mid-cycle or will not complete regeneration.

Safety: Unplug the softener and place it in bypass before removing covers.

Steps:

• Access the cam and switch: Remove the Clack valve cover. Locate the cam gear and the position switch or encoder assembly mounted near the cam.
• Check alignment: Verify that the cam gear is properly seated on its shaft and that the position switch/encoder is correctly aligned with the cam notches or magnet. If the cam has slipped, reposition it according to the index marks in the Clack service manual.
• Inspect the switch/encoder: Look for cracked housings, broken tabs, or signs of water intrusion. Gently move the wiring to ensure the switch is firmly attached and not loose.
• Check wiring harness: Follow the harness from the switch/encoder to the control board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and there are no broken or frayed wires.
• Functional test: Restore power and initiate a manual regeneration. Observe whether the cam rotates smoothly through positions. If the valve stops at the same point and shows Err 2, the position switch/encoder is likely not sending correct feedback.
• Replace faulty parts: Replace the Clack cam position switch/encoder assembly if damaged or intermittent. If a new switch does not resolve the issue, the control board may need replacement.

Note: Incorrect reassembly of the cam and switch can cause repeated Err 2. Follow Clack’s alignment procedure carefully.
