Display shows “Err 6” and the valve remains in a single position without completing regeneration.

Safety: Disconnect power and place the softener in bypass. Relieve pressure before opening any fittings.

Steps:

• Check drain line: Inspect the drain line from the Clack valve to the drain. Ensure it is not kinked, frozen, or blocked. Remove the drain line and briefly open the drain port (with bucket ready) to confirm strong flow during a manual regeneration.
• Clean injector and screen: Remove the injector cap on the valve body. Take out the Clack injector and injector screen. Rinse both under running water and clear any iron or sediment buildup with a soft brush or toothpick. Reinstall carefully.
• Inspect brine valve: Check the brine line and brine valve assembly on the valve. Ensure the brine line is not kinked and the brine valve is not stuck closed or open. Clean or replace the Clack brine valve assembly if it does not move freely.
• Evaluate piston/seals: If flow is still restricted, remove and inspect the piston and seal/spacer stack for heavy fouling or damage. Replace with a new piston and seal kit if necessary.
• Test regeneration: Restore water and power, then initiate a manual regeneration. Monitor each step to ensure the valve advances normally and Err 6 does not reoccur.

Warning: Do not run the valve with the drain line disconnected except briefly for testing into a bucket, as uncontrolled discharge can cause water damage.
