Possible Causes
Faulty turbine flow meter, Blocked flow meter turbine, Incorrect meter cable connection, Control board flow sensing failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and close the inlet valve before removing the meter.
Steps:
- Locate the meter: On Clack WS-series valves, the turbine flow meter is typically mounted on the outlet side of the valve body.
- Inspect meter cable: Ensure the meter cable is firmly connected to both the meter and the control board. Look for cuts or abrasions in the cable. Replace the Clack meter cable if damaged.
- Check turbine for blockage: Remove the meter housing according to the service manual. Inspect the turbine for iron, sand, or debris that could prevent free spinning. Clean gently with water.
- Spin test: The turbine should spin freely with a gentle puff of air or water. If it binds or wobbles, replace the Clack turbine meter assembly.
- Verify programming: Confirm that the correct meter type and capacity are programmed in the controller. Incorrect settings can cause Err 8 and improper brine refill volumes.
- Board check: If a known-good meter and cable are installed and Err 8 persists, the control board’s flow sensing circuit may be defective and require replacement.
Tip: Install a prefilter upstream if debris repeatedly clogs the meter.
