Possible Causes
Disconnected or broken meter cable, Failed turbine sensor, Incorrect meter type setting, Defective control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the softener before handling wiring.
Steps:
- Check meter cable connections: Verify that the meter cable is plugged into the correct port on the control board and firmly attached to the meter body. Reseat both ends.
- Inspect cable: Look for cuts, crushed sections, or rodent damage along the cable run. Replace the Clack meter cable if any damage is found.
- Confirm programming: Enter the programming menu and verify that the correct meter type (e.g., turbine) and size are selected for your Clack valve model.
- Test meter output: With power on, run water through the softener and watch the display. If the flow rate and remaining gallons do not change, the meter may not be sending pulses. Replace the turbine meter assembly if cable and programming are correct.
- Control board check: If a new meter and cable do not restore flow readings, the control board’s meter input is likely faulty and the control board should be replaced.
Note: Until the meter is fixed, the system may not regenerate properly, leading to hard water breakthrough.
