Possible Causes

Salt level below float assembly, Salt bridge causing false low reading, Mispositioned brine well or float, Faulty salt level sensor (if equipped)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: No electrical work is required for this fault, but avoid lifting heavy salt bags improperly.

Steps:

  • Check actual salt level: Open the brine tank lid and visually inspect the salt level. It should be above the water level and at least halfway up the tank for reliable operation.
  • Break salt bridges: If there is a hard crust of salt above a hollow space, use a broom handle to gently break the bridge so salt falls into the water. Do not strike the tank hard.
  • Refill salt: Add clean water softener salt (pellets or solar crystals) to the brine tank. Avoid rock salt with high impurities.
  • Check float and sensor: Ensure the brine well and safety float move freely and are not stuck. If your Clack system uses an optional salt level sensor, verify it is mounted at the correct height and not obstructed.
  • Clear the message: After correcting the salt level, the warning will typically clear automatically after the next regeneration or can be acknowledged via the keypad.

Tip: Keep a regular schedule for checking salt (monthly) to prevent hard water due to empty brine tank.
