Clack
Insufficient Regeneration Frequency / Capacity Setting Error
Water is intermittently hard, especially just before scheduled regenerations.

Possible Causes
Hardness set too low in controller, Water usage higher than design, Incorrect meter size or type programmed, Reserve capacity set too small
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This is a programming and sizing issue; no disassembly is required.
Steps:
- Test actual hardness: Use a reliable hardness test kit to measure raw water hardness. Compare to the value programmed in the Clack controller.
- Adjust hardness setting: Increase the programmed hardness to match or slightly exceed the tested value, especially if iron or manganese are present (add 3–5 gpg equivalent).
- Review capacity and reserve: Confirm that the programmed capacity and reserve are appropriate for your resin volume and household usage. Increase reserve gallons if you frequently run out of soft water before regeneration.
- Check meter programming: Ensure the correct meter type and size are selected so that water usage is measured accurately.
- Monitor results: After adjustments, monitor hardness over several days. If intermittent hardness persists, consult a professional to verify system sizing.
Tip: Households with variable occupancy may benefit from a slightly higher reserve setting to avoid hard water spikes.
