Possible Causes
Failed valve position sensor or encoder, Misaligned cam or rotor disc in Crystal Quest control head, Broken sensor wiring harness, Contaminated or obstructed optical/magnetic sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and close the inlet valve. Open a downstream faucet to relieve pressure.
- Access the control head: Remove the top cover of the Crystal Quest valve. Locate the position sensor (optical or magnetic encoder) mounted near the main cam/gear.
- Check alignment: Verify the cam or rotor disc passes cleanly through the sensor gap. If the disc is loose, cracked, or out of position, tighten or replace it. Ensure the cam is fully seated on the drive shaft.
- Clean the sensor: If optical, gently clean the sensor window and cam slots with a soft brush and isopropyl alcohol to remove iron or sediment buildup.
- Inspect wiring: Confirm the sensor harness is firmly connected to the main PCB and not pinched or cut. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Test operation: Restore power and initiate a manual regeneration. If the valve now indexes through positions without error, the issue is resolved. If E02 returns, replace the Crystal Quest valve position sensor/encoder.
