Possible Causes

Clogged brine injector/nozzle in Crystal Quest control valve, Blocked injector throat or screen, Air leak at brine line or brine well, Stuck or fouled brine valve assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet valve. Bypass the unit if possible. Relieve pressure by opening a faucet.

  • Check brine line: Inspect the 3/8" brine tubing from the control valve to the brine well. Ensure it is not kinked, pinched, or disconnected. Verify the brine safety float moves freely.
  • Clean injector: Remove the injector/nozzle and throat assembly from the Crystal Quest control valve (usually under a cap labeled INJECTOR). Note orientation. Soak the injector and screen in white vinegar to dissolve iron and scale, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Inspect brine valve: Remove and inspect the brine valve assembly (if separate). Clean any debris and ensure the check ball or plunger moves freely.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the injector, screen, and brine valve. Restore water and power. Manually start a regeneration and observe the brine tank: the water level should drop during brine draw. If not, replace the Crystal Quest injector kit and brine valve assembly.
