Possible Causes
Worn or cut drain valve seal in Crystal Quest control head, Debris lodged in drain port, Cracked drain valve body, Misaligned piston not fully in service position
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Bypass the softener and unplug it. Relieve pressure by opening a faucet.
- Confirm leak: With the unit in service and not regenerating, observe the drain line. There should be no continuous flow. If water flows steadily, the drain valve is leaking.
- Inspect drain port: Remove the drain line fitting and check for debris or resin beads lodged at the port. Flush with clean water.
- Rebuild drain valve: Access the internal drain valve seals as part of the piston/seal stack. Replace worn seals using a Crystal Quest seal and spacer kit.
- Check piston position: Ensure the drive cam returns the piston fully to the SERVICE position at the end of regeneration. Adjust or replace the drive motor/cam if it stops short.
