Possible Causes
Broken lower distributor or riser tube in Crystal Quest mineral tank, Cracked upper basket or top distributor, Overfilled tank with resin above freeboard, Excessive backwash flow rate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Bypass the softener immediately to prevent further resin migration. Depressurize the system.
- Inspect fixtures: Remove aerators and flush out resin beads from faucets and appliances.
- Open tank head: Remove the control valve from the mineral tank. Inspect the riser tube and upper basket for cracks or separation.
- Check lower distributor: If resin is entering plumbing, the bottom distributor is likely broken. The tank must be emptied and the Crystal Quest distributor/riser assembly replaced.
- Refill correctly: Refill the tank with the correct volume of Crystal Quest cation resin, leaving proper freeboard space.
- Verify backwash rate: Ensure the drain flow control matches tank size to avoid fluidizing resin excessively.
