Possible Causes
Drive motor failure on Crystal Quest valve, Position sensor not detecting cam movement, Obstructed piston preventing full travel, Control board logic fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Bypass the softener to restore water service, then unplug the unit before opening the control head.
- Manually advance: Use the REGEN or ADVANCE button to step through cycles back to SERVICE. If the valve does not move, suspect motor or mechanical binding.
- Inspect motor and gears: Remove the cover and observe the motor during a manual regen. Replace the Crystal Quest drive motor and gear kit if it does not run or is noisy.
- Check piston: If the motor runs but the piston does not move, rebuild the valve with a Crystal Quest piston and seal kit.
- Sensor check: Verify the position sensor/encoder is aligned and connected. Replace if the board cannot detect valve position.
