Possible Causes
Stuck brine refill valve, Leaking brine valve seat, Faulty safety float, Cracked brine line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Place the softener in bypass. Be prepared for water cleanup around the brine tank.
- Check safety float: Remove the brine well cover and verify the float moves freely up and down. Clean any salt buildup and ensure the float shuts off water when lifted.
- Inspect brine line: Look for cracks or loose fittings that could prevent the float from shutting off flow.
- Test refill valve: During a manual regeneration, watch the brine refill stage. If water continues to flow after the cycle ends, the brine valve or refill control in the valve head is leaking and needs service.
