Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Place the softener in bypass and disconnect power. Be prepared for some water discharge when opening lines.
- Check drain line: Inspect the Culligan drain hose for kinks, ice, or clogs. Ensure the drain line is not run uphill excessively and that the air gap or standpipe is clear.
- Clean injector and throat: Remove the injector cap on the valve body (refer to your model manual). Carefully pull out the injector and throat. Soak them in vinegar or a mild iron cleaner to remove deposits, then rinse and reinstall.
- Inspect brine line and valve: Check the brine line from the valve to the brine tank for kinks or air leaks. Verify the brine valve assembly at the valve head moves freely and is not packed with salt or debris.
- Verify water pressure: Ensure house pressure is within Culligan’s specified range (typically 20–125 psi). Very low pressure can cause cycle timeouts.
After cleaning and reassembly, take the unit out of bypass, restore power, and start a manual regeneration to confirm normal cycling.
