Possible Causes

Defective turbine/flow sensor, Turbine cable harness damaged or unplugged, Turbine blocked by debris or iron buildup

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener’s power supply before opening the cabinet. Close the inlet bypass valves to isolate the unit from household water pressure.

Steps to check and correct:

  • 1. Verify water flow: Put the softener in service position and open a faucet. Confirm that water is actually flowing through the softener. If no flow, check the EcoWater bypass valve and main shutoff.
  • 2. Inspect turbine/flow sensor: Remove the top cover of the EcoWater softener. Locate the turbine/flow sensor assembly on the outlet side of the control valve. Disconnect the small sensor plug and check for corrosion or loose pins. Clean and reconnect firmly.
  • 3. Check for debris: Shut off water and relieve pressure by opening a nearby faucet. Remove the turbine housing per EcoWater service instructions. Inspect the turbine wheel for iron, sand, or scale buildup. Clean gently with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly.
  • 4. Test the sensor cable: Inspect the cable from the turbine sensor to the main control board for cuts, pinches, or rodent damage. Reseat both ends. If the cable is damaged, replace it.
  • 5. Replace turbine/flow sensor if needed: If the turbine wheel is seized, broken, or the sensor body is cracked, replace the complete EcoWater turbine/flow sensor assembly. Reassemble, restore water, check for leaks, then plug the unit back in and clear the error by initiating a manual regeneration.

If Err 01 returns immediately after these steps, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
