How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before servicing the valve. Close the inlet and outlet valves or place the EcoWater bypass in bypass mode.
Steps to diagnose:
- 1. Listen for motor operation: With the cover on and power connected, attempt to start a manual regeneration. Listen for the drive motor. If it hums but does not turn, the motor or gear train may be jammed.
- 2. Inspect drive motor and gears: Unplug the unit and remove the top cover. Locate the drive motor on the control valve. Check that the motor mounting screws are tight and that the drive gear is engaged with the rotor/disc. Look for cracked or stripped plastic gears.
- 3. Check valve rotor/disc movement: With water pressure relieved, gently try to rotate the rotor/disc by hand (if accessible per EcoWater service manual). It should move smoothly. If it is seized, internal valve components may be fouled with iron or scale and require cleaning or replacement.
- 4. Test position switch: Locate the valve position switch or encoder on the valve body. Inspect the wiring harness and connector. Ensure the switch actuator is properly aligned with the cam or rotor. If the switch is loose or damaged, replace it.
- 5. Replace faulty components: If the motor does not run when powered, replace the EcoWater drive motor assembly. If the position switch tests open in all positions, replace the EcoWater valve position switch.
After reassembly, restore water, plug in the unit, and initiate a manual regeneration to confirm that the valve indexes through all cycles without error.
