Display shows “Err 04” and the time or regeneration settings cannot be changed.

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or circuit board.

Steps to attempt recovery:

• 1. Power cycle: Unplug the transformer from the wall outlet for at least 5 minutes. Plug it back in and check if the error clears. Re-enter the time and hardness settings if prompted.
• 2. Inspect wiring: Remove the control panel cover. Check all low-voltage connectors to the display board and main control board. Reseat each connector firmly.
• 3. Check for moisture: Look for signs of condensation, water drips, or salt corrosion on the control board. If present, identify and correct the source of moisture (leaking brine tank lid, plumbing drip) before replacing electronics.
• 4. Surge protection: If the error appeared after a storm or outage, consider adding a surge protector to the outlet to prevent future damage.
• 5. Replace control board: If Err 04 remains and the unit will not accept programming, replace the EcoWater main control board with the exact model specified for your softener.

Programming of the new board must match your plumbing configuration and hardness; follow the EcoWater installation manual or have a dealer perform setup.
