Possible Causes
Defective 24V transformer, Loose power connector, Faulty control board power circuit, Shared outlet with high-load appliance causing brownouts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Work only on the low-voltage side of the transformer unless you are qualified to handle mains voltage. Unplug the transformer before inspection.
Steps to diagnose:
- 1. Check outlet: Plug a lamp or small device into the same outlet to verify it has stable power. Avoid using switched or GFCI outlets that may be turned off.
- 2. Inspect transformer: Verify that the EcoWater-branded transformer is warm (not hot) to the touch when plugged in and that its cable is not frayed. If the transformer is cold and the unit is dead, test or replace the transformer.
- 3. Check low-voltage plug: Ensure the low-voltage plug is fully seated in the control head. Wiggle gently while watching the display for flicker; if it flickers, the jack or plug may be loose.
- 4. Avoid shared high-load circuits: Do not share the softener outlet with sump pumps, freezers, or large motors that can cause voltage dips. Move the transformer to a dedicated or more stable circuit if possible.
- 5. Replace control board if needed: If a known-good transformer does not resolve Err 05, the control board’s power regulation circuit may be faulty and the board should be replaced.
