Possible Causes
Misaligned valve cam, Defective encoder or position sensor, Loose cam set screw, Worn cam gear teeth
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and place the softener in bypass before working on the valve head.
Steps to correct:
- 1. Remove cover: Take off the top cover to access the drive motor, cam, and encoder assembly.
- 2. Inspect cam alignment: Observe the cam position relative to the valve body marks. If the cam is not aligned with the expected cycle position, the set screw may be loose. Tighten the cam set screw while holding the cam in the correct position.
- 3. Check encoder/position sensor: Locate the encoder or position sensor mounted near the cam. Ensure it is firmly attached and that the sensor wheel or magnet is intact. Inspect the wiring harness for damage.
- 4. Manually index valve: With water pressure relieved, manually advance the valve through its positions (per EcoWater service instructions) to ensure it moves smoothly and the encoder tracks movement.
- 5. Replace worn parts: If the cam teeth are worn or the encoder is not providing consistent feedback, replace the EcoWater cam/encoder assembly.
After repair, restore power and run a full manual regeneration to confirm the valve completes all stages without error.
