Possible Causes
Insufficient brine concentration, Fouled resin bed, Incorrect hardness setting, Brine draw incomplete
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass if you will open the valve or brine system. Wear gloves when handling resin or brine.
Steps to improve softening:
- 1. Test hardness: Use a reliable hardness test kit to confirm that water after the softener is indeed hard. Compare to raw water hardness.
- 2. Check salt level and type: Ensure the brine tank has adequate high-purity salt (solar or pellet). Avoid rock salt with high impurities.
- 3. Verify brine draw: Start a manual regeneration and observe the brine level. It should drop during brine draw. If not, clean the venturi/eductor and check the brine line and float assembly.
- 4. Increase salt dose: If the unit is set to a very low salt efficiency mode, increase the salt dose slightly and retest hardness after the next regeneration.
- 5. Resin condition: If the resin is over 10–15 years old, heavily iron-fouled, or has been exposed to chlorine, it may need to be cleaned with a resin cleaner or replaced with a new EcoWater resin bed.
