Possible Causes
Use of low-quality rock salt, High humidity causing salt to dissolve and re-crystallize, Infrequent salt tank cleaning
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass. Wear gloves when breaking up salt masses.
Steps to fix:
- 1. Break up salt mass: Use a plastic tool or broom handle to break up the solid salt at the bottom of the tank.
- 2. Remove sludge: Scoop or vacuum out the mushy salt and sludge from the bottom of the brine tank.
- 3. Clean tank: Rinse the brine tank with warm water and a mild bleach solution, then rinse thoroughly.
- 4. Refill with quality salt: Use high-purity solar or pellet salt recommended by EcoWater. Avoid rock salt.
- 5. Maintain level: Keep salt level between 1/3 and 2/3 full and clean the tank every 1–2 years.
