Stuck brine valve, clogged drain line preventing proper brine draw, incorrect refill setting, leaking brine line connection allowing air in
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Bypass the softener and unplug power before servicing. Mop up any spilled brine to prevent slipping.
- Check drain line: Ensure the drain line from the Fleck valve is not kinked, frozen, or blocked. Clear any obstructions and verify that the drain line terminates with an air gap.
- Inspect brine valve and float: Open the brine well in the brine tank and verify the safety float moves freely and shuts off water at the correct level. Clean or replace if stuck.
- Verify refill time: In the control programming, confirm the brine refill time is appropriate for the brine tank size and salt setting. Reduce if excessively high.
- Service brine valve in head: Remove and inspect the brine valve assembly in the Fleck valve. Replace worn O-rings or the entire assembly if it leaks or fails to close.
