Safety first: Ensure the drain line is secure and terminates safely. Wear eye protection when observing drain discharge.

• Extend backwash time: Increase the backwash duration in the Fleck programming to allow more thorough cleaning of the resin bed.
• Install prefilter: Add a sediment or iron prefilter upstream of the softener to reduce loading on the resin.
• Use resin cleaner: Periodically run a resin cleaner through the system to remove iron fouling.
• Consider media replacement: If heavy fouling persists, replace the resin and inspect the distributor and gravel bed.
