Possible Causes

Bypass valve closed or mispositioned, blocked inlet screen, severely fouled resin bed, collapsed distributor tube

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Close the main water supply before disassembling plumbing. Relieve pressure by opening a faucet.

  • Check bypass position: Verify the Fleck bypass is fully in the service position (not in bypass or closed).
  • Inspect inlet screen: Some Fleck valves have an inlet screen. Remove and clean any debris or sediment.
  • Bypass test: Place the valve in bypass. If water flow returns to the house, the restriction is inside the softener.
  • Inspect resin and distributor: Remove the control head and check for resin packed into the top of the tank or a broken/collapsed distributor tube. Replace the distributor tube and resin if damaged.
