Possible Causes

Drain line run below outlet causing siphon, no air gap, cross-connection with sewer, incorrect installation height

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure drain connections meet local plumbing codes to prevent contamination.

  • Check drain routing: Verify the drain line runs downhill only to an approved drain with an air gap. Avoid long vertical drops that can create siphon.
  • Install air gap: Add an air gap fitting at the drain termination to break any siphon effect.
  • Raise drain line: If the drain outlet is below the softener, reroute or raise the line to prevent continuous flow.
  • Inspect valve: Confirm the valve is not leaking internally (see continuous drain flow fault) in addition to any siphon issues.
