Salt Bridge in Brine Tank
Salt level in the brine tank does not drop over time and the water remains hard.

Possible Causes
High humidity causing salt to crust, use of pellet salt forming a hard bridge, infrequent salt usage, overfilling brine tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No electrical work is needed. Wear gloves to protect your hands from sharp salt edges.
- Probe for a bridge: Push a broom handle or plastic rod straight down into the salt. If you hit a hard layer with empty space underneath, a salt bridge is present.
- Break the bridge: Gently tap and push to break up the hardened salt layer, being careful not to damage the brine tank walls or float assembly.
- Remove excess salt: Scoop out loose salt and any mushy salt at the bottom. Refill only to the manufacturer’s recommended level (usually below the halfway point of the tank).
- Monitor operation: After clearing the bridge, run a manual regeneration and verify that brine is drawn and the salt level begins to drop over the next few cycles.
