Possible Causes

Failed drive motor, Jammed rotor/cam gear, Broken or stripped cam gear teeth, Faulty motor position switch or sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet water valve before opening the control head.

  • Step 1 – Try a manual regeneration: With power restored, press and hold the REGEN button to start a manual cycle. Listen for the motor. If you hear humming but no movement, the rotor/cam may be jammed.
  • Step 2 – Inspect the drive assembly: Remove the control cover. Locate the drive motor and rotor/cam gear. Check for broken plastic teeth, debris, or salt bridging that may be binding the valve.
  • Step 3 – Free the cam: Gently rotate the rotor/cam by hand (with power off). It should move smoothly through positions. If it is seized, inspect the valve body for foreign objects or internal damage.
  • Step 4 – Test the motor: With the cover off and water still off, restore power and start a regen. Watch the motor shaft. If it does not turn at all, or only twitches, the motor is likely bad.
  • Step 5 – Replace failed parts: Replace the drive motor if it does not run under power. If the cam gear is cracked or teeth are missing, replace the rotor & cam assembly. Reassemble and test a full regeneration.

Note: If you are not comfortable working around live low-voltage wiring while observing the motor, disconnect power and have a technician test the motor.
