Possible Causes
Blocked venturi/nozzle, Clogged brine line, Air leak at brine line fittings, Stuck brine valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves when handling salty water. Avoid ingesting brine.
- Step 1 – Check brine level: During brine draw, the brine level in the tank should slowly drop. If it does not move, there is a suction problem.
- Step 2 – Clean venturi and nozzle: Shut off water and relieve pressure. Remove the venturi/nozzle assembly from the valve body. Disassemble and soak parts in warm water. Use a soft brush or toothpick to clear any iron or sediment.
- Step 3 – Inspect brine line: Follow the brine line from the valve to the brine well. Check for kinks, cracks, or loose fittings that could allow air leaks. Replace damaged tubing.
- Step 4 – Check brine valve: Remove and inspect the brine valve assembly in the brine well. Ensure the float moves freely and the valve opens/closes properly. Clean any salt buildup.
- Step 5 – Test regeneration: Reassemble, restore water, and start a manual regeneration. Watch the brine level; if it now drops, the issue is resolved. If “Err 9” returns, the internal valve passages may be restricted and the valve body may need service or replacement.
Note: Regularly cleaning the venturi prevents many brine-related errors.
